On Sunday, June 28, 2026, VFW District 4 Commander Bill King hosted a solemn American Flag Retirement ceremony. This significant event brought together members of VFW District 4 to honor and respectfully retire worn and tattered American flags. As part of the ceremony, the District 4 Riders, along with other motorcycle groups, provided a motorcycle escort for the flags, ensuring they were treated with the utmost dignity as they made their way to the cremation site at Michigan Memorial Cemetery. The atmosphere was filled with reverence as participants prepared for the ceremony, which included a tribute to the meaning and sacrifice represented by the American flag. Following the escort, the ceremony featured powerful moments, including cannon fire to signify respect and remembrance, and the playing of taps, which resonated with all in attendance. The event concluded with a gathering at Michigan Memorial Cemetery, where lunch was provided for all participants, allowing them to reflect on the day’s significance and camaraderie.
